Fireproofing - Project Profiles:
Canary Wharf

Project: Canary Wharf
Location: London, U.K.
Fireproofing: Monokote® MK-6®

Construction was suspended for over five years on building B3. Monokote® fireproofing remained exposed to the elements for more than two years until 1993 when work resumed. Canary Wharf Limited decided to remove all exterior fireproofing to check the condition of the steel. After five years exposure to the weather, Monokote® MK-6® required jack hammers to remove it. A spokesperson for Canary Wharf Limited said, "When we had to use brute force to get it off we were most impressed. It says a lot for a product when it survives, intact, in situations it was not designed for."
