A new Wal-Mart Supercenter¹s location in a crowded urban area limited available room for parking. To accommodate the heavy traffic and double the parking capacity, a one-level supported parking terrace was needed along with a construction approach that would save time and labor.
To reinforce the slab-on-ground concrete of the parking terrace, as well as other high traffic areas, the structural engineers for the project specified STRUX® 90/40 Synthetic Macro Fiber Reinforcement. "One of the reasons we like STRUX so much is that it reduces the possibility of corrosion that would result from the use of welded wire mesh or other secondary steel reinforcement in the concrete," said Robert McConnell of Carl Walker, Inc. STRUX also saved time and labor because trucks could be driven directly on the grade to pour the concrete. The result was a winning solution, earning an "Excellence in Concrete" award from the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the American Concrete Institute.
