Concrete Admixtures - Project Profiles:
Ambrose Elementary School

Project: Ambrose Elementary School
Concrete Supplier: McClellan Concrete
Contractor: Jackson Construction
Location: Winchester, Massachusetts, USA
Products: STRUX® 90/40 Synthetic Macro Fiber Reinforcement

The Challenge . . .

The specifications for a new school floor demanded strength and crack control at a cost-effective price. It was also important to protect the vapor barrier placed under the concrete as punctures and breaks could allow moisture into the concrete, causing the tiles on top of the concrete to become unglued.

The Solution . . .

To avert any of these concerns, STRUX® 90/40 Synthetic Macro Fiber Reinforcement was specified. STRUX replaces welded wire mesh that can easily puncture vapor barriers, and replaces light reinforcing bars as well as steel fibers that can easily clump and ball during the batching and placement process. In addition, unlike wire mesh that requires added labor to place and is difficult to position properly and evenly, STRUX synthetic macro fibers are always consistently placed since they're dispersed throughout the mix — providing uniformly tight crack control and high residual strength. "With STRUX 90/40, we got the strength we needed and a smooth power-troweled finish," said project manager Richard McGuiness of Jackson Construction.
