Why do I need to use Grace Vycor Deck Protector on my deck?
Grace Vycor Deck Protector is a unique solution, which combats two of the most common deck problems: rot of supportive deck structures and corrosion of metal components in contact with the new pressure-treatment preservatives.

How common is the joist rot problem?
According to recent statistics, one of the most common reasons for deck replacement is wood decay and rotted deck framing. One out of five decks that get remodeled or replaced involves a failure of the supportive joists or stringers.
Do I need to use Grace Vycor Deck Protector on Pressure-Treated Decks to prevent rot and wood decay?
Yes. Pressure-treated decks are also prone to rot and decay. Therefore, you should use Grace Vycor Deck Protector to prevent such decks from premature structural degradation. During the pressure-treatment, the preservative does not always completely saturate the wood. The interior parts of the board (i.e. heartwood) usually remain untreated and are vulnerable to decay and dry rot. Cutting pressure-treated wood opens channels for water and decay organisms to get through the chemical barrier to the untreated interior parts, starting the decay process from within. Fastener holes are also common passageways for water and decay microorganisms. Once subject to water and moisture, wood expands and shrinks, causing more cracks and further exposing untreated areas. Grace Vycor Deck Protector works to preserve pressure-treated wood decks from rot and decay.

What is a flashing?
Flashings seal a wall where it's most susceptible to water, air and moisture leaks. Most commonly, these are found in window and door openings, corner boards, deck-to-wall intersections, under stucco finishes, masonry walls and other detail areas.
How do flashings work?
Window and door flashings are installed prior to the exterior finish covering. They work by sealing the joints, seams, holes and other unwanted openings in walls so that water and air cannot pass through the substrate and into your home. Grace window and door flashings provide superior protection against leaks that traditional building papers, felts and house wraps just can't match.

What are Grace flashings composed of?
Grace Vycor Plus and Grace Vycor V40 are composed of two excellent waterproofing materials: rubberized asphalt and cross-laminated polyethylene.

How is Grace Vycor® Plus different from Grace Vycor® V40?
Grace Vycor Plus is a 25 mil self-adhered flashing that provides premium protection against water, air and moisture leaks. It is designed to work in severe winter climates, milder climates and in coastal areas where wind-driven rain is common. It can be safely used with wood, plywood, concrete and masonry. Grace Vycor V40 Weather Barrier Strips offer this same protection in 40 mil. Grace Vycor V40 is also specifically designed to meet the federal code for weather-resistive barriers (see Federal Specification UU-B-790a, Grade A).
